c:n recommends - Dharma at Big Sur with CSO discount code!

As most of you already know, the artistic directors of concert:nova also have “day jobs” at the Cincinnati Symphony. One program that we are recommending for our friends at concert:nova is Dharma at Big Sur, by John Adams. Did you know John Adams was a clarinet player? Obviously the best instrument. While the star of the show is an electric violin, played by Tracy Silverman, the other works on the program are some of our favorites too! Read the program notes for the whole backstory.

PROGRAM NOTES

What’s interesting about this concert:

• Solo electric violin, a sound which “swoops down like a seagull moving in a windstorm,” brings the The Dharma at Big Sur into view.
• Videographer Adam Larsen’s visuals to Big Sur, projected along with the music, create a fully immersive concert experience. See a preview.
• Copland’s Billy the Kid draws on the frontier and folk songs from the time of the fabled western outlaw.

This concert is part of Series 1.

Get inside the minds of composers and to the heart of the music with Classical Conversations, one hour before Friday, Saturday and Sunday Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra subscription concerts.

Concert Duration: Approx. 1 hour, 40 minutes with intermission.
