Nathan Prillaman

Composer

Nathan Prillaman is a composer and music technologist from Potomac, Maryland. Nathan earned a master’s degree in composition at Juilliard, studying with John Corigliano, and an undergraduate degree with composition studies under Kathryn Alexander and Michael Klingbeil at Yale University.

Since moving to NYC in 2013, Nathan has been active scoring films, writing music for dance, producing music for various artists, writing musicals, and a variety of other musical projects. Nathan’s music has been commissioned or supported by a wide array of institutions and organizations, recently including the New York City Ballet’s New York Choreographic Institute, The Juilliard School’s Dance Department, Yale University, Juilliard’s Beyond the Machine Festival, Cal State Long Beach Department of Dance, the Grand Rapids Ballet, Peridance, and many others.

Nathan’s technology work has included a reconstruction of Milton Babbitt’s lost Concerti electronics (Juilliard Focus Festival), a new technical implementation of David Tudor’s surround-sound live-controlled music for Merce Cunningham’s Sounddance (Juilliard Dance), as well as designs, consultation, and implementations for a variety of other projects, including touring artists, Off-Broadway productions, VR applications, and educational projects.  Nathan currently serves on the faculty of the Juilliard School, teaching music technology and frequently consults for the Music, Dance and Drama divisions on music technology issues.

Recent projects include a multimedia immersive dance work in Paris with ACE Dance Concept, an award winning score to the Canadian independent feature Flora, and collaborations with a wide variety of choreographers, recently including Emery LeCrone, Norbert De La Cruz III, and Quilan Arnold.  Nathan is also one half of cosmic classically inflected folk band Small Fools.  For more information, visit www.nathanprillaman.com.
